Great post. So true Staci. Dr james Dobson once said, our business and aspirations in life will always be there, but our children will only close to us for a season. Enjoy them and be balanced.
As leaders, it’s easy to get distracted on the many things that make us BUSY, while forgetting the things that matter most. To live a life of peace and true fulfillment, it is paramount that we take time to stop and “smell the roses” in life. Despite the demands of leadership and the pull of responsibilities for the MASSES, there is no greater calling than that of serving our own families and giving them the love, attention and time they long for each day.
This pic is precious to me. It’s the day we bought our daughter her first guitar three years ago. She was so full of excitement and anticipation. I remember it being a very busy day of back to back meetings. But suddenly my busyness was interrupted by a moment of peace when I heard the song by Trace Adkins, “You’re Gonna Miss This“.
The song talked about how, so often, we are in such a hurry to get to our next event in life that we miss out on the beauty of what’s right in front of us. Sometimes we are so busy “doing” that we miss the joy of “being” present with those we love and cherish most.
The longer I listened to the song, the more I thought about my children and their little voices saying, “Mommy, can you play with me? Mommy, will you take us swimming? Mommy, will you take me to pick out my first guitar?”
That day, I stopped EVERYTHING, drove straight to get my little girl and launch a new dream in her heart. Years later, I still remember that day, the joy on her face, and the love in my heart, knowing I was NOT going to have the regret of missing such a precious moment in her life. Today, I will, again, step out of my busy moments to celebrate her performance on stage, singing and playing her guitar after 3 years since that special day. I am a proud momma and I wouldn’t miss this moment for the world!
At the end of your life, you will either say, “I wish I had spent more time on the things that matter most.” Or, you will live without regret, saying, “I’m sure glad I did! Seize the day today and embrace the joy of “being” with those you love!
