John 14:25 – “All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
I don’t know about you but sometimes I find myself white-knuckled in this roller coaster, holding on for dear life. But today, I hear the spirit saying, “Peace be still.” In other words, throw your hands up in the air and enjoy the ride!
In today’s video, we dissect the story of Jesus in Mark 4:38, who “laid his head on the pillow” and slept during a devastating storm. While his disciples chose the posture of “PANIC and freaking out in the midst of adversity”, Jesus chose to the posture of peace even in midst of the storm.
As I share 3 powerful stories, two of which are storms that hit our family’s lives, I pray you see the power of peace and how it can help you transcend the cares of this world, no matter how much pressure they represent.
Horatio Spafford was a successful lawyer and supporter of the evangelist, D.L. Moody.
In 1870, he and his wife lost their 4-year-old son to scarlet fever and then one year later he was financially wiped out by the Chicago fire 1871.
In a season of great grief and devastation, Spafford decided that he and his family needed some time away and so they chose to take a vacation to England and join DL Moody on his evangelistic tour.
At last minute, Spafford had a business call come up that held him back from going on the ship with his family but he sent his wife and 4 daughters on ahead without him.
That ship in which his family was on collided with another ship, claiming 226 lives, including Spaffords 4 daughters.
Mrs. Spafford was spared and sent a telegram reading, “Saved alone”. Horatio quickly boarded a ship to go meet his wife and as he passed over the waters where his daughters died, he penned the hymn…”It Is Well With My Soul”.
